Many of the basic characteristics of the trench coats like epaulettes, storm flap and the belts served to be of great purpose while fighting in the trenches thus making it almost a uniform of those soldiers. Trench coats are the ones that was the most popular among the soldiers who basically lived in the trenches while the war was going on. While at the start only the high officials were given the honour soon it spread among the soldiers too because of its utilitarian properties. They were first introduced to fight off the cold and rain by soldiers in the army overcoat and navy. The olden capes turned more into a garment that a person can don on. The outerwear has been in mens and womens use for a long time but overcoats made its mark only after the World War period. I probably should have looked it up, because it was neither: It rained non-stop for virtually the four days I was there. I’ve never been to Tennessee before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect when I saw rain predicted for my entire trip.
